2012 Here I Come!!!

Bring on 2012...I am ready!!!

Everybody knows that you never end up keeping your New Year's Resolutions so I don't have any of those.  However I do have some plans for 2012.  We also know how much I love lists so here is the 3rd posted list of the day...

1.  Memory's Boot Camp 2012!!  I have got to get this body into shape!!  Richard and I are going tomorrow to join the new Kroc Center here in Greenville.  I am really excited because it is a lot closer to our house than the Life Center so I think I'll use it more.  It also has more swim lanes so hopefully I'll have better luck being able to swim.  It doesn't offer as many group classes as the Life Center but hopefully I'll be able to get into an excercise routine on my own and I think they will keep adding classes.  It also has a tennis facility and since Richard gave me a new tennis racket for Christmas I plan to get back to playing.   I'm really excited about focusing on eating better (including lots more cooking, less eating junk) and excercising so that I feel better and I stay healthy!!  Feel free to share any good, healthy recipes!

2.  House projects!!  Richard and I have both big and little house projects that we hope to tackle.  Just to name a few...
  • Fix the window in the guest bathroom and paint in there.
  • Paint the Office and hang different things on the wall
  • Refinish the file cabinet in the office so that it looks pretty
  • Add built-in cabinets/shelves in the office (way down the road)
  • Fence in our backyard
  • Build a new back porch
  • Put electricity in the shed
  • Paint our bathroom
  • Paint the shelves in our bathroom
  • Make a shower curtain for our bathroom
  • Rebuild the shower in our bathroom to make it bigger (down the road)
  • Frame pics from our childhood
  • Put pics in frames that already exist in our house
  • Put some art up in the laundry room
  • Repaint the dining room the same color
  • Get a new bedside table and mirror for our room so that we can move ours downstairs
Whew!  That list makes me tired just looking at it!!  But it also makes me very inspired and I can't wait to get to work!!

3.  Money, money, money!!  We need to be better stewards of our resources.  Both Richard and I want to make a very conscious effort to save more money this year.  We want to budget better and work on only buying what we need, not what we want...except for special occasions.  Since I love lists and spreadsheets I can't wait to sit down and make some plans with my cute husband for where we want our money to go this year.  I'm also going to try to get better about using coupons and shopping good sales.  I want to feel good about our finances and not be wasteful in any way.

4.  Blog.  Obviously 2011 proved that I'm not a very consistent blogger.  So I want to make this thing worth it and pick it up a little so that we have great documentation of our lives for us to look back on!  Included in this plan is to take more pictures.  We got each other a nice camera for our wedding present so I need to make good use of that too and start snapping.  I'd really like to take a photography class this year to use the camera to it's full potential.  Stay tuned for progress in this department...

5.  Thank You Notes.  You would think that 8 months later I would have all of my wedding thank you notes done but you would be wrong.  I still have a few left to do and I have got to get on it!!  I ran out of stationary 6 months ago and fell off the thank you note train.  But I'm hopping back on and am going to finish thanking my friends and family for all of the wonderful wedding gifts (and now Christmas gifts) that they have given us!  So if you haven't received your thank you note from me...keep checking your mail!!

That should keep me busy for a while.  I'm sure I'll think of more big ones and add them to the list.  And there is always the list of things that I try to do like keep the house clean, do my quiet time daily, be a good friend, etc.  Now I'm off to get started...

Happy New Year!!!

The Best of 2011...

Where did 2011 go??  Well...let's recap some highlights....

1.  The biggest highlight is that I became a Mrs!!  2011 will always be a most special year because it's the year that I got to marry my best friend!!   It's hard to believe that was already 8 months ago.  I love being married and I'm so thankful for my sweet husband!

2.  Richard graduated from Greenville Tech with an Associate's Degree in Health Science!  I'm so proud of him!  Now he is moving on to USC Upstate to work on a BS in Nursing.  He works so hard and I can't wait to see where his future takes us!

3.  We added a new member to our family...Miss Tupelo!  She has been a joy to have and in my biased opinion she is one of the cutest things ever.  She is getting really good at obeying commands like sit, stay and fetch but she's still working on the potty training.  She does great most of the time but both Richard and I have been peed on recently and she especially likes to choose pillows to use as her personal toilet...thanks Tupelo.
Tupelo the Reindeer did not want to pose for a picture.

4.  My brother, Will, graduated from Officer's Candidate School and joined the Marines.  We are so so so proud of him!!  He worked really hard and even spent a week in the hospital while he was there.  But he powered through and we got to go up to Quantico, VA for his graduation a few weeks ago.  It has been really interesting learning more and more about the traditions and Marine lifestyle.  There is such a part of me that worries about him with this new adventure but I trust that the Lord will protect him and be in control so I just have to pray for him and support him as best I can.  He is so handsome in his uniform...I cried the whole weekend.
This is right before we got to see him for the first time.  He is standing just to the right behind the guy in front.  I barely recognized him!

This is graduation day.  He is on the front row but now it is really hard to pick him out!

Sweet brothers after Will took his oath

My parents each got to pin a star on his uniform

Perm and I got to pin a bar on the side of his uniform

 Will's first salute

So handsome!!  I can't even believe it is for real.

5.  Lots of babies!!  Several of my friends had new babies this year and I have loved getting to know their little ones!!

Those are some of the highlights this year.  Of course there have been many more in between and I hope to keep documenting more of the fun times as they come.  2011 was a busy year!  I can't wait to see what 2012 brings!!

Christmas & A Few of my Favorite Things

Before I can jump in to 2012 I need to just close the book on 2011 with a Christmas recap and a tribute to some of my most favorite holiday things!

So to get started...in no specific order....I especially love...

1.  White Christmas

I LOVE this movie!!  We watched it every year on Christmas growing up at my grandparents house but I never really appreciated it until I matured into my adult years and now I can't get enough.  I watch it and dream of dancing like those girls.  And while I do really love this movie I also love Christmas movies in general.  I have to watch Love Actually, The Holiday and Elf every year.  Richard and I shared a few chuckles with Christmas Vacation this year...I forgot how funny that movie is.  And I have a weakness and secret love for the Hallmark Channel and Lifetime Christmas movies.  I watched 3 of them on Christmas morning while waiting for Richard to wake up...oops!!!

2.  Starbucks Peppermint Mocha

I wait for this drink every year.  Now I know that technically you can order it at anytime of the year but that just is not fun.  I want it in the Christmas cup wtih the little chocolate flake sprinkles.  Just the smell of it makes me love Christmas.  This fall I fell for the Salted Caramel Mocha and thought I was in heaven but once they rolled in the peppermint mocha I never looked back.  I think I drank my last one for the year this morning (really my last one for 2011 but I'm just a day behind).

3.  Christmas music

Again I can't get enough!!  I'm still singing Hark the Herald Angels Sing at any moment that I can!  I especially love the songs about Jesus like O Come All Ye Faithful, O Holy Night, Angels We Have Heard on High, etc.

This is a song I just found this year and both Richard and I love it...

BarlowGirl's Hallelujah (Light has Come)

4.  Christmas Trees

I think we accidentally made it through the whole season without taking a picture of our tree.  I'm not sure how that happened and we certainly can't let it happen again.  I can tell you that it looked like the Griswold's tree in that it was too big for the room so it was bent over on top and stuffed in to the corner.  But it was PERFECT!!  I love big trees!  I take lots of time to put lots of lights on it and Richard and I enjoyed decorating our first tree together.  Big tree + Small Living Room = Christmas magic!!  I was sad to see it go yesterday but my living room seemed to grow in size overnight!

5.  Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Balls

Thanks mom for making me some while I was in Wilmington!!  They are a Christmas staple and I can pop them in by the handful.  YUM!!

6.  Christmas Decorations in general

Love them.  Pull them out the day after Thanksgiving.  Sad to see them go back in the closet.

Those are just a few of the many things that make me think about Christmas and that I especially look forward to the other months of the year.

This year Christmas was really special since it was our first Christmas as Mr. and Mrs. Stein and we spent it right here at home which was a big change for me.  We both worked on Christmas Eve so we stayed in Greenville and celebrated with each other.  Here are a few pics of Christmas morning/afternoon when Richard woke up and we opened presents.

Tupelo loved all of the wrapping paper

My mom and David came over for dinner that night and we had a delicious meal of steaks, potato casserole, salad and peppermint ice cream pie.  We opened more presents, played a game and enjoyed spending time together on Christmas night! (I can't believe I didn't take any pictures!!)  It was weird to not be in Wilmington surrounded by lots of family but it was just right for us.  I was lucky enough to go to Wilmington for a few days after Christmas to spend time with friends and family.  Overall I would consider the 2011 holiday season a complete success!!

This picture was taken as we were leaving the Christmas Eve service at church.  I love it.
